Shift Materials is an innovative start-up dedicated to producing high-quality and cost-efficient Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) type cathode active materials and their derivatives for the Norwegian and European battery industries. Our focus on LFP and its derivatives, including LMFP, positions them as significant contributors to the evolving landscape of the Norwegian battery sector.
Understanding the importance of cathode material’s chemistry role in the battery value chain, LFP and LMFP cathodes have gained popularity due to their low cost and thermal stability. Unlike nickel-based cathodes, LFP cathodes do not contain expensive metals, like cobalt and nickel, considered critical materials.
The lack of a domestic cathode material supplier in Norway, motivated us to take the first steps in starting our adventure. The conventional methods of LFP synthesis are known for being energy and waste intensive. At Shift Materials, we are developing a production process that prioritizes cost-effectiveness, efficiency, and sustainability to overcome these challenges.
