Abstract

Battery demand is soaring because we need the world to go full renewable. This creates great opportunities, but also some challenges we need to tackle. Especially linked to raw materials. We will need substantial amounts of metals and minerals to produce all the batteries that the world needs. These raw materials should be sustainably and ideally locally produced.

Hydro is a global energy and aluminum company with a strategy to also diversify and grow within new energy, including in Batteries. In Batteries, we industrialize and scale sustainable battery materials businesses with partners. Our key investments within Anode Materials (Vianode), Circular Solutions (Hydrovolt) and Direct Lithium Extraction (Lithium de France) all have in common that they will contribute to local supply of sustainable battery materials, with overall and CO2 footprints significantly lower than current conventional production.
